Crowdfunding music education.
Can we change the world through music and the arts? Can we help unite people of diverse backgrounds through rhythm, harmony, and color?
How might we build a platform that harnesses the energy of music to funding real change? Playing For Change Foundation and HiDef partnered to do just that, and the results have meant $200,000+ over two years in new funding.
Power to the Music, Power to the Children
Building on the global success of the Playing For Change series of music videos and “power to the people” albums, Playing For Change Foundation is “creating positive change through music & arts education.” The Foundation has reached the lives of many by building music schools throughout the world.

However, these schools need funding for teachers, for instruments, and for a positive, peaceful space to empower the youth. In partnership with HiDef, we helped strategize and create the web presence for Playing For Change Day, a yearly global day of music that helps musicians play their music while raising awareness and funding for the Foundation’s efforts.
Connecting and Empowering with Technology
HiDef’s first-of-a-kind platform allows musicians of all backgrounds to pledge a performance to the cause of peace. In the first two years since the platform’s launch, over 600 performances have taken place on street corners, cafes, mainstages, and webcasts around the world. The third year is on track to be the biggest ever, so gear up for September 21st, 2013!

The key to the platform’s success is that it uses technologies that people know to enable the creation of fundraising goals. This allows every event’s fans to donate to one of the school’s programs, either online prior to the event, or right from their phone during the event by sending a simple text message.
The project leverages industry leading technologies from Facebook (inviting friends), YouTube (sharing videos of songs), and Google (mapping events) to create this one of a kind mobile, social experience.
We’re excited to be using the best of web and mobile technologies to promote global peace and opportunity through music.
