Denver House of Genius

Last night I got a chance to check out the Denver chapter of House of Genius. The format is incredible and justifies the moniker. The idea is to bring together a diverse group of entrepreneurs and social change thinkers–in an anonymous context.

Qualifying your business or title, revealing only your first name, and of course passing out business cards; all of these activities are deferred to the end.

The discussion revolves around 3 pitches brought to the table by entrepreneurs in various stages of business and each with a specific ask. After a 5 minute presentation and brief Q&A, each of the “geniuses” is asked to respond to the question for which the Entrepreneur is seeking guidance. This round leads to suggestions, introductions and spawning new ideas on the topic. The results are incredibly candid and embrace the ideals of creativity and open discussion. Continue Reading »

Healthy Innovation at the Unite for Sight Conference

IMG_0342

To round out this year’s spring conference season we attended the Global Health and Innovation Conference at Yale put on by Unite for Sight. It was great to be back in my home state of Connecticut, and the conference proved to be a compelling intersection of technology and social enterprise. As a bonus, there was less medical jargon than I expected. I was impressed by the emphasis on innovation and creating models in which it thrives, and I found the conference presenters to be a very diverse mix of leaders from the non-profit and for-profit space. Nonprofit Technology Conference 2012: Music to Our Ears

Extra Action Marching Band kicking off NTC

I knew this year’s Nonprofit Technology Conference(NTC 2012) was going to be a good one when I heard the music start to trickle in from the hallway, but I wasn’t fully prepared for the whirlwind of fun, networking, and learning I was about to be immersed in.

I was expecting to open up Twitter and browse while I sat through a boring keynote speaker to start the conference, but the NTEN organizers had another idea. They had hired the Extra Action Marching Band to really kick things off in proper San Francisco style, and the crowd was loving it. I was glad we had taken a front row seat as the band paraded down the aisle, blasting brass instruments, banging drums, and waving flags. Was I in the right place? This was my first NTC, and I was the only one within eyesight wearing a tie.

I thought for a minute I might be at the ad:tech happening down the street, but I was sure even they weren’t have this much fun. Continue Reading »

The integration of technology into the educational experience is certainly nothing new, but the EETC Conference is happening at an exciting time where the availability of the technology is accelerating, and the role it plays is changing. We’re excited to be a part of the early education technology community (#EETC) and looking forward to next year’s event. Continue Reading »

‘HiDef Web Solutions, LLC’ is now ‘HiDef, Inc.’

HiDef on Blue

Like any good web company, our founder, Azin, came up with our original name through that laborious yet necessary step that all web firms must take: domain name shopping. Finding a domain name that was short, descriptive and available was a challenge even in 2003. But he came across hidefweb.com and thus, HiDef Web Solutions, as a brand and culture, was born.

Today we’re the proud owners of hidef.co, but this story is about more than just a domain name. Since 2003 “HiDef Web” has grown to include 22 full time employees, and as of 2012 we have grown our reach beyond just the web to include mobile, social and strategic consulting services targeted at social enterprises. Because of this and more we have officially changed our name to “HiDef, Inc.” Continue Reading »
