Here at HiDef, we are a completely distributed operation. There is no office building we have to get to everyday, so we’re not spending that 90 minutes a day in the car getting frustrated–or worse. Beyond the obvious benefit of missing rush hour and allowing ourselves to arrive at work truly at our best, we can “time shift” common activities, such as grocery shopping or other errands into time slots that aren’t peak hours. This Simon Mainwaring (@simonmainwaring) quote has had me thinking since the moment I heard it. And by thinking, I mean squirming.
It’s one of those lines that in one way makes you wish that you hadn’t heard, but in another way makes you want to work harder. I heard it while at Plywood Presents: Social Innovation, a jam-packed one-day conference at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta that I was lucky enough to be a part of last week. Sponsored by local non-profit Plywood People, the event was all about sharing ideas, inspiration, and bringing a room full of big-picture thinkers and doers together to experience the powerful things people are doing around them. Billed as a “Party to Save the World,” the first annual Common Pitch took place Friday night in Boulder. The event was a culmination of planning and execution of Alex Bogusky’s new “collaborative brand” called Common. The event pitches entrepreneurs head to head in a format that was entertaining enough to be on reality TV, but with enough social impact around the ideas to be a part of this emerging niche of social ventures. At least–that was the premise.
Late last year, during our customary time of introspection as a company, we decided to allow ourselves the indulgence of re-imagining our web presence to better communicate who we are, what we do, and the impact we’re having.
HiDef’s new site articulates our international reach and global perspective to potential clients and employees who have met us onsite, online, or through a third party site (such as through a blog post mention, a tweet, or a job posting).
